Growing by sharing
There are two major ways to distinguish yourself as a professional and human being. Either you raise above the crowd or you raise the crowd. The first, at its worst, is done by putting other people down to make yourself look greater. The second indicates leadership. A wise surrounding will shortly know the answer to the question who made that part of the organization flourish. It is built on sharing experiences and information as well as caring. Openness or transparency, if you like. It doesn’t instinctively see enemies all over the place (ecosystem). The concept of sharing is a matter of survival in our era. The concept of keeping things to yourself is dead. I will always be inspired by what a R&D director said to me some twenty years ago: “Please feel free to share our new ways of working (not figures!) with our competitors. It will keep us on our toes to take the next step.”
